A fast growing type of consumer of electricity is datacenters. All the electrical input will become local heat that has to be cooled. The datacenters represents two challenges. Firstly the needed cooling must be done with as little use of electricity as possible. Secondly the heat flow from datacenters represents a heat source with low grade heat possible to upgrade for usage in a heating grid. A Rotterdam datacenter will utilise these energy flows.

The data center is designed according to the Uptime Tier III guidelines. This ensures high availability of cooling and power supply. This is enabled through a system which is redundant at several points and can be maintained during operation.
