The European Union’s Directorate General for Energy
The European Union’s Directorate General for Energy (DG Ener) is focused on creating a competitive internal energy market to lower prices, to develop renewable energy sources, to reduce energy dependence and to reduce energy consumption. Research and innovation are key pillars of the EU’s energy policy, specifically since low-carbon technologies are essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to improve the sustainability of the energy system.
Through the EU’s energy union strategy, DG Ener places local communities and municipalities at the heart of the energy transition and helps them tackle energy and climate-related challenges . Moreover, it supports the uptake of new energy technologies, since these can help decrease reliance on external suppliers of fossil fuels, as well as spur job creation and economic growth, in so doing delivering on several of the objectives in the energy union strategy.
